King Charles, Camilla planning to axe 20 pc of Royal household staff; Read to know why

In an effort to increase “efficiency” among royal staff, British Monarch King Charles III is planning to cut off 20% of the middle-management staff of the UK Royal family. According to the British news outlet Daily Mail, Charles and Camilla are reportedly “dismayed” over the fact that too many staff are performing similar jobs. As per the news outlet, the King is also upset with the fact that some of the senior staff continue to tell him to operate in a “certain way” since that’s how the “Queen did it”.

The 74-year-old British monarch took over the throne after her mother Queen Elizabeth II passed away in September last year. Months after the death of the longest-serving monarch, the United Kingdom witnessed the coronation of a new monarch, the first in 70 years.

According to Daily Mail, the cuts will take place among the staff of Buckingham Palace, Sandringham, Windsor Castle and Balmoral. The move is also a part of King’s long-held ambition to “streamline and modernise” the monarchy. “There is a real feeling that the staffing at all the palaces is too heavy,” a source close to the royal family told Daily Mail. “There are far too many assistants to assistants. The King and Queen would prefer to pay people proper wages from top to bottom but have fewer people. For instance, there are chefs for them and chefs for the staff. Why, they ask, can’t there be one lot of kitchen staff for everyone?” the source added.

Queen Camilla will oversee the streamlining

According to Daily Mail, Charles’ wife, the Queen Consort Camilla, will be overseeing the streamlining after she had made it clear that “levelling up of Royal staff” is needed. “Her Majesty cannot abide too many people doing the same jobs. Senior housekeeper, executive housekeepers and juniors,” the royal insider told the British news outlet.

In light of this, Camilla has reportedly raised the matter with the Master of the Household, Vice-Admiral Sir Tony Johnstone-Burt. Earlier this year, Charles’ sister Princess Anne rejected the British monarch’s ambition to streamline monarchy, stating that “few people” have already stopped carrying out official duties, alluding to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Duke of York Prince Andrew. “I think ‘slimmed-down’ was said in a day when there were a few more people around to make that seem like a justifiable comment,” the Princess royal asserted in a rare interview, Daily Mail reported. “It doesn’t sound like a good idea from where I’m standing,” she added.
