King Charles shows he is more ‘romantic’ than Prince William with key gesture

Prince William and Kate, Princess of Wales clearly adore each other and frequently exhibit public displays of affection, including an “openly romantic gesture” with “signals of passion”.

On the other hand, King Charles and Queen Camilla are less keen on overtly romantic gestures during public appearances, with Camilla providing just a very subtle subtle sign that her marriage is a “success”.

Nevertheless, according to one body language expert, it is King Charles who comes out on top when it comes to who is the most romantic royal male.

Judi James said: “While William can produce more tactile, loving and even sexy PDAs in one outing with Kate than Charles has probably produced in his entire lifetime, it’s still Charles who would win hands-down when it comes to being the more romantic man.

“Despite his failed marriage and his hands-off body language with Camilla, it’s poetry-writing, cello-playing Charles who has always seemed keen to promote himself as a romantic figure.”

Judi suggested that King Charles and Prince William have different attitudes to women, which may make them different kinds of husbands to their respective wives.

She claimed: “At times solitary, reflective and very much a traditionalist, [Charles’s] body language suggests a man who places women on a romantic pedestal to be respected and admired in a very courtly way, rather than to be seen as friends and equals.

“William’s sexy, playful and loving PDAs with wife Kate show a very even-handed relationship of status equals, friends and even competitors when there is some sporting event to join in with.”

The pair have been known to compete in dragon boat races and spin classes, with William displaying a “grounbreaking” gesture when Kate emerged victorious.

However, “Charles’s very hands-off behaviour with his wife in public means his love rituals are much more subtle, but when Charles wants to promote his romantic credentials he will happily employ overkill rituals to get the message across,” Judi claimed.

“Charles seems to compartmentalise ‘romantic’ gestures in a way that William doesn’t.”

Judi suggested that the King’s gestures are a far cry from today’s modern society, and that he adopts a more old-fashioned approach.

She claimed: “For Charles it’s about kissing the backs of hands or sniffing roses in the kind of dutiful, non-sexual gesture that is rarely seen outside historical dramas.”

“When Charles performs these rituals that are out-of-date in modern society he really throws himself into it, too, suggesting it is an important signal for him.”

“Whether it’s his mother or his first wife or even the Spanish Queen, Charles with lift the hand to his lips and fully lower his head to make the gesture appear hugely symbolic.

“Like his pocket hankies and his ‘love’ of a fountain pen, it suggests a desire to retain or return to older romantic values.”
