But thanks to is friends, family, and complete strangers, he’ll be able to marry his sweetheart, Donna, in February.
His friend and colleague Sean set up a Go Fund Me when he found out that Barry would only have months to live and needed to bring his wedding forward.
Sean knew he had to do something to help Barry get the wedding he deserves. He said:
“He was an agency driver for 10 years and he finally became full time Royal mail this year believe it or not and he’s also very upset about that.
“He said to me I’ve got everything in my life done and dusted, I’m really happy and then I go and get this you know what I mean.
“You can’t help but feel sorry for him because he’s such a great lad and so many people like him in royal mail and in Wisbech, he’s very popular.”
Sean was off on holiday when Barry was diagnosed and had no idea until someone mentioned it at work:
“I had no clue whatsoever and someone said oh it’s terrible about Barry Lansfield isn’t it? And it hit like a bolt through a lot of people when we got to know because it is a shock to the system and it really did hit home and hurt.”
If there is any money leftover that isn’t used on the wedding, Barry is going to donate it to the people that have cared for him like Addenbrookes and Macmillan. Sean said that’s just the kind of person he is:
“He is one of these people that you can’t help but like and I know for a fact if the shoe was on the other foot he would help anybody because he has done in the past and you know, no one deserves that diagnosis.”
You can donate to the wedding on the Go Fund Me page.
Sean said you don’t even need to donate though:
“So many people have offered so much, so much good will from so many people and do you know what that has given him some energy and that has given him a fight within him and has cheered him up so much.”
