STELLA Athletics Club will host its annual Stella Royal 25km, 10km and 5km road race on May 12. According to Louise Hucklesby from Stella Running Club, the race has been contested annually since 1975 with the winners over the years generally being international or provincial athletes. “Stella Royal is regularly voted the best in its class in KZN, and the club is working extremely hard to make it the premier race in KZN.
Historically, more than 1 800 athletes attend the event.”
Hucklesby said this year is the 50th running of the race. “It is great in that it activates our area, weaving through the leafy suburbs of Glenwood and Umbilo. We are offering something for everyone: 5km fun run, 10km run/walk for the more fit and a 25km run for those tapering for Comrades.” The race this year is titled The Hollywoodbets Stella Royal 2024 with Discovery Vitality, and the local running club has the sponsorship of the two major organisations this year.
