Lady Colin Campbell brands Meghan Markle ‘cheap, vulgar and irresponsible’ over Vogue edition – and says Duchess should behave like a royal and not an A-lister

  • Lady Colin Campbell, 69, slammed Meghan Markle, 37, as ‘cheap and vulgar’
  • Called the Duchess of Sussex ‘irresponsible’ for behaving like a celebrity
  • Earlier this month she said Meghan would have clashed with Princess Diana
  • Claimed similar qualities would have led to trouble between the two women

Lady Colin Campbell has slammed Meghan Markle as ‘cheap, vulgar and irresponsible’ and accused the royal of ‘acting like a celebrity’ by guest-editing the September issue of British Vogue.

The 69-year-old Jamaican-born socialite, who has published three books about the British Royal Family, told Closer magazine: ‘She was never an A-lister, so she needs to stop acting like one.’

Lady Colin said: ‘Royalty do not behave like celebrities do. It’s cheap, vulgar and irresponsible.’

The royal biographer, who claimed to be a confidante of Princess Diana, went on to say that Meghan, 37, was ‘letting down’ those who admire her by behaving in this way.

Meghan Markle has been criticised as ‘cheap, vulgar and irresponsible’ by royal author Lady Colin Campbell

It’s not the first time that Lady Colin has criticised the Duchess of Sussex, as earlier this month she suggested Meghan would have clashed with Prince Harry’s mother Princess Diana.

Her comment come after it was announced Meghan would be guest editor of the September issue of Vogue magazine.

The project saw the Duchess of Sussex select 15 women to be featured on the cover, choosing not to star herself, whom she hails ‘forces for change.’

It comes at the end of a difficult period for Meghan, who has faced widespread backlash over her privacy demands.

And earlier this month, Lady Colin suggested that Meghan wouldn’t have gotten along well with Harry’s mother Princess Diana.

She told new magazine: ‘I think Meghan and Diana are sufficiently similar personalities for there to have been the potential for conflict.

‘They have very similar personalities, which would make me believe trouble may well have brewed down the line.’

Lady Colin, who is set to appear on the new series of Celebs Go Dating alongside Lauren Goodger and Megan Barton-Hanson, claimed the Duchess of Sussex ‘wanted to become a princess’ and ‘sought it out’.

And earlier this year Lady Colin, who still has close royal connections, claimed Meghan has ‘considerably changed’ Harry, who is ‘besotted’ by her.

Speaking in the Channel 5 documentary Kate V Meghan: Princesses At War, Lady Colin revealed that the Duke of Sussex is ‘beguiled’ by his new wife.

The documentary also claimed that while Harry is happier than ever since settling down with Meghan, things between him and Prince William are more strained.

While rumours of a feud between Meghan and Kate have swirled, the show claimed that the rift was actually between Harry and William – after the younger brother felt ‘criticised’ for his choice of wife.
