Legroom on easyjet, Jet2 and RyanAir flights revealed as myth debunked

The summer holidays are upon us and many families will be jetting off for a well deserved summer holiday. Millions of UK holidaymakers will be taking to the skies in search of some much needed sunshine.

While the destination is the most important thing, people also want to be comfortable during their travel. Having a suitable amount of legroom can ensure holidaymakers can stretch out and relax during their journey to their chosen destination. Getting comfortable on a plane can be challenging if your seat is small, or you don’t have much legroom.

The dimensions of seats, and legroom, can vary depending on which airline you choose. Many airlines provide seats with “extra legroom” for an additional charge, but if you’re curious about how much space you’ll receive with a standard ticket, we’ve rounded up the sizes of legroom and seat pitches offered at major airlines.

A Which? survey examined legroom and seat widths on flights with 16 well-known airlines operating short-haul routes from the UK. To establish the amount of legroom, the research measured a “seat pitch”, which is the distance between two seat rows and is an indicator of legroom.

The survey also measured seat width, which is the distance between the armrests of a single seat. The data was collected from April 2025 and debunked a myth as it explained: “Don’t assume that a higher fare will always get you more space in economy.

“There’s very little difference between the seat pitch on budget flights and that on more expensive carriers.” Regarding legroom, TAP Portugal offered the highest number with a maximum of 32 inches. RyanAir has a range between 28 – 30 inches while Easyjet has a standard seat pitch of 29. The full results of the survey are below.

Regarding seat width, most airlines’ seats are of a similar size and varied between 17 and 18 inches.
