Leicestershire’s newest Tesco store opens to villagers

A convenience store in Barwell has relaunched as a Tesco with a wider range of products.

The former One Stop shop, on Moore Road, has been transformed into a Tesco Express after shutting down for the revamp in November last year.

To celebrate the relaunch last week, a temporary balloon arch was placed over the entrance doors, with the balloons in Tesco’s signature red and blue colours, reports the Hinckley Free Press.

The shop is now open from 7am to 11pm every day.

The change means that customers will now be able to collect Tesco Clubcard points on their purchases.

A self-service ‘on the go’ Costa Coffee vending machine is also available inside.

There is also a Post Office branch within the shop, open from Monday to Saturday.

Residents have welcomed the opening, although the placement of stock inside the store such as newspapers and chocolate bars was being questioned.

One said: “It’s a great transition in my opinion. Much more variety and stock! Best of all they’ve kept the same staff.”

While another said: “Love it.”

A spokesperson for Tesco said previously: “We believe the Express brand will better serve the Barwell community, offering a broader range of both branded and Tesco own brand products, as well as more fresh food and food to go.”
