Limited edition Brexit coin on sale for over £2000

A ‘VERY rare’ limited edition Brexit coin is for sale for over £2000 by a Worcester resident.

The 50p coin, officially known as the ‘withdrawal from the European Union 50p’, was released into circulation on January, 31 2020.

It was the only official UK coin released to commemorate the occasion.

The coin was initially schedule to be released on March, 31 2019. However a second batch was manufactured when Brexit was further delayed until October, 31, 2019.

Minting was paused as a reflection of the political uncertainty at the time, with the vast majority of the majority of the first two batches melted down into other coinage.

It has been suggested that only five coins from the March and October run are still in existence.

The coin is not the only one to ever be released concerning the UK’s relationship with the European Union.

In 1973, the European Economic Community 50p was released to reflect the entry into the EEA, before the Single Market 50p was released in 1992.

The coin is 27.3mm in diameter and weighs eight grams.

The face of the coin showcases the standard right-facing portrait of Elizabeth II, which was typical for the time.

The coin’s reverse features the quote ‘Peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations’, in cursive script.

The date ‘31 January 2020’ is inscribed beneath the quote in a smaller font, representing the date that the UK officially left the EU. This date replaced the earlier versions of the coin that displayed ‘31 October 2019’.

The coin is for sale by this Worcester seller for a fee of £2045.70.

The seller is offering free Royal Mail-tracked delivery alongside the sale, but is not accepting returns.
