You can vote in the forthcoming election if you are: 16 or over; living in Scotland; a British or Irish citizen; a Commonwealth citizen or foreign national who has leave to enter or remain in the UK or does not require such leave not legally excluded from voting.

The deadline to register to vote for this Scottish Parliament election is April 19. The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday, April 6.

Commenting, Linlithgow and East Falkirk MP Martyn Day (SNP) said: “Polling stations will be open with all the usual Covid safety measures in place. However, in the current circumstances you may be thinking about voting by post.

“Anyone can apply to vote by post. You don’t need to give a reason. Postal voting is the safest way to vote. Apply now and you’ll be able to vote in a way which reduces your risk from the virus.”

New postal vote applications or changes to existing postal vote details must be made to the Electoral Registration Officer at Lothian Valuation Joint Board website at www.lothian-vjb.gov.uk or by sending complete applications to 17A South Gyle Crescent, Edinburgh EH12 9FL or calling 0131 344 2500.

Postal voters will be able to make use of Royal Mail’s priority post box service when they are returning their completed ballot paper.
