Crash caused ‘large diesel and oil spillage’
The crash involving two lorries on the A14 earlier today caused a diesel and oil spillage, National Highways has said.
Cambridgeshire Police led the response to the crash, alongside the East of England Ambulance Service, Northamptonshire Police, National Highways, and the Environment Agency.
A National Highways spokesperson said:
Due to the scale of the incident and the impact on traffic the carriageway was close to allow emergency services to work at scene, with National Highways Traffic Officers and service providers providing traffic management. There was also a lane closure on the eastbound carriageway near Easton to assist with releasing traffic caught within the westbound closure, this has now been removed.
They added that recovery of the vehicles is “well underway” but that the road surface will need to be assessed due to a large diesel and oil spillage.
The central reservation barrier will also need to be assessed as it was hit during the crash and may need emergency repairs.
Road users able to drive on motorways should follow the hollow circle diversion route which uses the A1, Fletton Parkway Interchange, and A605 before rejoining the A14.
Non-motorway traffic is being diverted via local routes.
A National Highways spokesperson said:
There are currently delays of less than 10 minutes reported on approach to the closure point at J21, however delays are expected on the diversion route.
If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.
