Living It Up In Liverpool

A COUPLE won £30,000 each in People’s Postcode Lottery – after dreaming about the number three.

Excited Jo, and husband Steve, started thinking about what their winnings could be. And they were left stunned when Royal Mail worker Jo’s prediction of a ‘three’ figuring in the amount came true.

Jo, of Garston, Liverpool, said, “Steve said, ‘do you have a number in mind?’ I said, ‘I just keep thinking of three. It’s three, it’s three, it’s three’. And it’s thirty thousand!”

The couple won with five other neighbours after L19 1RN landed People’s Postcode Lottery’s Sunday Street Prize today. Every ticket in Palmerston Road was worth £30,000, with a total of £210,000 won.

Jo, who has been playing for around 10 years, bought a ticket for her husband to celebrate his 50th birthday.

The couple already have a Mediterranean cruise booked, but after their win Steve said, “Might get a balcony room!”

The Mersey Rail worker added, “I was trying to convince myself that it wouldn’t be any more than a thousand, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to sleep for the week. So I was thinking it’s going to be a thousand and anything more than that will be a bonus.

“Funnily enough, that’s what our cruise is costing – £1,000 each – so it would have paid for our cruise.”

The win has come at an exciting time for the couple, who have been married for almost 10 years. They just had an offer accepted on a new house after a previous sale fell through. And Jo’s daughter, who lives in New Zealand, will be getting married there next year.

Jo said, “Yesterday we found out we had the house and today we found out we got sixty thousand.”

Globetrotting dad-of-six Edward says he has Singapore-born wife Nancy to thank for his win – and will buy her a designer bag as a thank-you.

The retired oil worker – who has lived all over the world including West Africa, China, South Korea, Singapore and Malaysia – said, “Nancy came over from Singapore and saw it on TV and said, ‘why don’t we do it?’

“She’s always wanted a Chanel bag, so I’ll buy her a Chanel bag. That will be a nice little present for her. It’s all about Nancy.”

Further along the street, Denise revealed the good news of her £30,000 win has come after a tough year.

The retired art and fashion textiles teacher – who started playing to support charities – said, “It’s just amazing. I can’t believe it really. I’ve had quite a bad year this year because my husband’s had a heart attack and my younger brother died.”

Thankfully Denise’s husband, who has had two stents fitted, is recovering, and she added, “He deserves something as well.”

Now Denise – who suffers arthritis in her hands and a condition called Iritis, which causes eye inflammation and requires injections during flare-ups – will treat her late brother’s kids and her two great-nieces.

And she dreams of a family holiday with access to a pool.

She added, “It’s ideal for the two little ones, there’s a six and a three-year-old and they love the pool.”

She was also thrilled for her winning neighbours and said, “It’s great because it’s a lovely road this. Everyone is really friendly. They really are.”
