London ULEZ : The new London locations where driving the wrong car could soon cost you £4,500 a year

From next year many more car owners across London could face massive charges just for driving down to the shops.

This is down to the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) expanding to cover a whole new swathe of the capital.

It costs £12.50 for most vehicle types, including cars, motorcycles and vans to enter the ULEZ.

Heavier vehicles such as lorries, buses and coaches are liable for a £100 charge.

The scheme aims to improve the capital’s air quality, which contributes to thousands of premature deaths and other serious conditions.

At the moment the area covered by the scheme is just around Central London, but from October 25 2021 this will expand to most areas within the North and South Circular roads.

To be exempt from the ULEZ charge, petrol cars, vans and minibuses must meet the Euro 4 emissions standard and diesels must meet Euro 6.

That means the oldest cars that can be driven in central London without paying are roughly a four-year-old diesel model or a 13-year-old petrol model.

The area operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends (except Christmas day).

This means if you drive every day, you would need to pay £4,550 in total.

The boroughs of Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea, Camden, Islington, Haringey, Hackney will be completely covered by the ULEZ area.

Parts of Barnet, Ealing, Hounslow, Richmond upon Thames, Wandsworth, Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham, Greenwich, Redbridge, Waltham Forest, Enfield and Newham will also be covered.

Enfield

Walthamstow Avenue is part of the North Circular Road and is outside of the ULEZ. B&Q, Trinity Park, Salisbury Hall Playing Fields and Sainsbury’s are outside of the zone. Folly Lane roundabout is outside of the zone, but the exits for Folly Lane or towards Costco are inside the zone. Crooked Billet
Walthamstow Avenue is part of the North Circular Road and is outside of the ULEZ. Wadham Lodge

Redbridge

South Woodford

High Road is outside of the ULEZ as far as its junction with George Lane. George Road is outside of the ULEZ as far as its junction with The Viaduct. Drivers approaching the zone on Tempelhof Avenue can get back to the North Circular Road without entering the zone but should be wary of the entry point immediately east of Templehof Avenue.

Brent Cross Interchange
The North Circular Road is outside of the ULEZ. The Brent Cross Interchange is outside of the zone but the exit for Hendon Way, southbound, is inside the zone. Drivers approaching central London from Hendon Way should exit onto the North Circular Road. All exits facing central London, including for Brent Cross Station, are inside the zone.

Brent Park
The North Circular Road is outside of the ULEZ, as is Brent Park. All exits facing central London, including for Princes Park, are inside the zone.

Finchley Synagogue
The North Circular Road is outside of the ULEZ. All exits facing central London, including for Temple Fortune Club, are inside the zone.

Henlys Corner
The North Circular Road is outside of the ULEZ. All exits facing central London, including for Falloden Way, are inside the zone.

St. Marylebone Cemetery
The North Circular Road is outside of the ULEZ. All exits facing central London, including for St. Marylebone Cemetery, East Finchley Cemetery, Brookland Infant & Junior School, Christ’s College Finchley and Convent of the Good Shepherd, are inside the zone.

Finchley Fire Station
The North Circular Road is outside of the ULEZ. Long Lane is outside of the zone north of the junction with Abingdon Road. Drivers approaching central London on Long Lane wishing to avoid the ULEZ should proceed no further than the intersection with Abingdon Road. All other exits facing central London, including Bishop Douglass RC School, are inside the zone.

Strawberry Vale Estate
The North Circular Road is outside of the ULEZ. High Road is outside of the zone north of Strawberry Vale. Drivers approaching central London on High Road wishing to avoid the ULEZ should proceed no further than Strawberry Vale. All other exits facing central London, including for Newstead Children’s Centre, Old Barn Community Centre and Green Man Community Centre, are inside the zone.

Great North Leisure Park
The North Circular Road is outside of the ULEZ. All exits facing central London, including for Strawberry Vale Estate and St. Pancras and Islington Cemetery, are inside the zone.

St. Pancras and Islington Cemetery
The North Circular Road is outside of the ULEZ. All exits facing central London, including for St. Pancras and Islington Cemetery, The London Centre for Children With Cerebral Palsy and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, are inside the zone.

Pinkham Way
Pinkham Way is part of the North Circular Road and is outside of the ULEZ. All exits facing central London, including for Powerleage and Hollickwood School, are inside the zone.

Bounds Green Industrial Estate
Pinkham Way is part of the North Circular Road and is outside of the ULEZ, as is slip road Orion Road and its roundabout. All exits facing central London including for Freehold Community Centre, Muswell Hill Golf Course, Hollickwood Park and Bounds Green Industrial Estate, are inside the zone.
