The deodorant brand published a post on Instagram about its Africa fragrance, which was accompanied by the caption: ‘I’m sorry to be the one to break the bad news.’
Lynx fans are up in arms after the deodorant firm claimed it has “discontinued” its iconic Africa fragrance – but some people are convinced it is a prank. The deodorant brand published a post on Instagram which was accompanied by the caption: “I’m sorry to be the one to break the bad news.”
The post itself read: “You may have heard that our iconic Lynx Africa scent is getting discontinued. We know – it hurts (sorry if we’ve ruined your go to fragrance) but don’t worry, the rest of your faves are still here to keep you smelling fine. And who knows? Maybe one day, Lynx Africa will make a legendary comeback. We appreciate your understanding during this period of adjustment and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
The news had some fans devastated, with one person saying: “Nooo I actually love this one.” Another person added: “What am I gonna get from my grandparents at Christmas now.” But others were sceptical about the post – and suspected a publicity stunt. One person said: “I thought it was April 1st when I read this.”
It comes after ice tea brand Liptons teased it had discontinued its peach flavoured drink earlier this week. A post read: “You may have heard that our iconic Peach Lipton Ice Tea flavour is getting discontinued. We know – it hurts (sorry if we’ve ruined your go-to afternoon chill bev). But don’t worry, the rest of your faves are still here to keep you refreshed.
“And who knows? Maybe one day, Peach will make a legendary comeback. We appreciate your understanding during this period of adjustment and apologize for the inconvenience caused. #RIPPeach.”
But a second announcement, posted the next day, confirmed it was just a joke. The post read: “Oops, is it still March? Got my dates mixed up… Thought it was April Fools already! I’d never take away your favourite flavour, pookies. Your love for peach has not gone unnoticed. But I’ve got your back, I will be sending a surprise to the biggest fans with the best reactions.”
Both posts from Lynx and Lipton feature the “discontinued” products in question with angel wings. The Lipton post was accompanied with the words “Rest in Peach” while the Lynx message read “Rest in Africa” below the can of deodorant. Commenting on the Lynx post, one person said: “Lipton already made this prank lil bro.”
It comes after Sainsbury’s apologised to shoppers after an everyday essential item was discontinued across its stores. The supermarket chain confirmed that Respectful Eggs were no longer being sold in its stores. The news came after a customer questioned why they were not able to find them in their local branch. In a post on X, previously known as Twitter, the customer wrote: “Please can you tell me if Respect eggs are going to return at Sainsburys Cannock.”
The supermarket said: “I’m really sorry but the eggs have been discontinued. Products are removed due to a number of factors, this could be popularity or to do with the supplier.”

Tesco also issued an apology to customers as it confirms one of its fridge staples had been discontinued across all of its UK supermarket stores. Customers took to social media to ask where the product in question had gone. One person asked: “Can I ask @Tesco why you don’t sell the six pints of milk anymore? Certainly not home delivery.”
The supermarket chain responded to confirm that the product had been axed in all of its UK stores and apologised for not being able to share better news. The Tesco spokesperson said: “Good afternoon, thanks for getting in touch. Tesco British Whole Milk 3.408L, 6 Pints has been discontinued. I’m sorry for any disappointment.”
