Madame Tussards splits Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to reflect the duchess’ ‘celebrity status’

Madame Tussauds SPLITS Meghan Markle and Prince Harry and moves the duchess alongside A-listers to reflect her ‘celebrity status’

  • Meghan Markle, 38, and Prince Harry, 34, have separated at London museum
  • The waxwork of the Duchess of Sussex has moved to a room with celebrity pals
  • Meanwhile Harry will be housed with the rest of the royal family in separate area
  • Madame Tussauds said the change ‘mirrored’ Meghan’s celebrity status

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be separated at popular British tourist attraction Madame Tussauds in order to reflect the Duchess’ celebrity status.

While Prince Harry, 34, will stand alongside the other royals, the waxwork of the Duchess of Sussex, 38, will be moved to a glitzy bar area alongside A-lister friends like The Beckhams and Tom Hardy.

The change was made by the museum in order to mirror Meghan’s independent celebrity status.

Steve Davies, General Manager at Madame Tussauds London, said: ‘Meghan continues to carve out her own modern take on life as a royal, and we want to mirror her independent celebrity status in the attraction.’

Critics have hit out at Meghan recently for ‘considering herself more of an A-lister than a member of the royal family’, after she selected a handful of celebrity friends for the cover of Vogue.

And the duchess has faced growing backlash in recent months over her privacy demands, including a controversial appearance at Wimbledon where her security banned fans from taking photographs.

Madame Tussauds is a popular tourist attraction in London, with a reported 10 million guests each year.

It offers fans a chance to take selfies and snaps with their favourite celebrities, if they’ve been unable to meet them in person.

The waxwork of Meghan was unveiled 10 days before the royal last year, with Prince Harry joining her in front of an interactive screen with different backgrounds.

The former actress will now join A-listers like close friends Tom Hardy, the Beckhams and Priyanka Chopra – who all attended her wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018.

Meanwhile Prince Harry will stand in an area alongside waxworks of the rest of the royal family, including Prince William and the Queen.

Steve said that the museum was moving Meghan to the glitzy area after listening to what visitors said about the former actress.

He said: ‘At Madame Tussauds London we’re always listening to what people have to say about their favourite stars.’

While he added that the couple were not splitting up permanently, he added: ‘We’re just allowing Meghan to mingle in her more-familiar celebrity circle for a while.’

The move comes days after Meghan faced criticism over her approach to royal life by biographer Lady Colin Campbell.

She told Woman magazine: ‘[Meghan’s] Her behaviour shows a lack of understanding and appreciation of what being royal is. I’m not sure who she thinks she is behaving this way.’
