‘Mail van fail’ led to Oban exam results delay

The Royal Mail has revealed the reason that some students did not receive their exam results on Tuesday.

A number of pupils across the area – relying on SQA National Five and Higher results arriving by first class post – were let down when they did not arrive.

A number of parents contacted The Oban Times to say their children had been left ‘upset’ by the delay.

After several days, the Royal Mail has now explained why in a short statement.

A spokesperson said: ‘Unfortunately due to a vehicle breaking down in a rural area, we deeply regret that there was a delay in delivering some Scottish exam results earlier this week.

‘We understand how important this day is, and apologise for the inconvenience this has caused the pupils who were affected.’

The Post Office – a separate business to Royal Mail – has pointed out it had no involvement in the matter.
