Make sure to return your postal vote for the General Election

Anyone who applied for a postal vote is being reminded to ensure that they complete and return the paperwork ahead of Thursday’s General Election.

Exeter City Council sent out postal votes more than a week ago to everyone who had applied – 12,500 in total in the Exeter constituency.

People will need to complete the paperwork and cast their vote before returning the envelope to the City Council. The easiest way to do this is via Royal Mail.

The General Election takes place across the UK on Thursday 4 July, with polling stations open across the city from 7am to 10pm.

Whilst people are encouraged to return their postal vote by Royal Mail, it is possible to return a postal vote to a polling station within the Exeter constituency, on the day of the elections, or at the Civic Centre (during opening hours of 9am to 2pm) leading up to Thursday 4 July.

New regulations – introduced as part of the Elections Act 2022 – have come into force which mean anyone handing them in will be required to complete a form, and hand it over to an authorised person. If the form is not completed, the postal vote will be rejected.
