Man attempted to obtain cannabis through the post

A Portstewart man who attempted to obtain cannabis through the post has been given a three months jail term, suspended for 18 months.

Ryan Buckley (24), of Ardmore Drive, had the offence detected in October last year after police were alerted by Royal Mail.

At Coleraine Magistrates Court on August 19 defence barrister Francis Rafferty said the defendant had previously pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted possession of cannabis.

He said the defendant had successfully engaged with treatment and was now drugs free and in full-time employment.
