A man is in a critical condition in hospital after a stabbing in St Matthews estate in Leicester. Detectives investigating the attack in the Willow Street area of the estate are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Police were called by East Midlands Ambulance Service just after 9pm yesterday (Friday 28 April) after a man was found with an injury to his neck. Vast swathes of the estate were closed off by police, including Willow Street, Calgary Road, Vancouver Road and a stretch of Taylor Road from Montreal Road to Kashmir Road.
Police believe the man, who is in his 20s, was stabbed with a knife close to the junction of Wanlip Street and Lower Willow Street before walking a short distance along the road. He was taken to hospital and remains in a critical but stable condition.

Cordons remain in place today in the area, with foresic investigators and detectives seen in the area. Police say officers are continuing to carry out a number of enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and would ask anyone who may have information to contact police.
No arrests have been made at this stage, they add. Detective Sergeant Nick Woodrow said: “We urge anyone who was in the area of Wanlip Street, Lower Willow Street and Willow Street last night to come forward if they can assist with thins investigation – if they saw anything that might help, captured anything on their mobile phone or were driving in the area and have a dash cam.
“We currently have an area of Lower Willow Street and Willow Street cordoned off as we work to establish what occurred last night and do a full investigation of the scene. Officers are also in the area speaking to residents and reviewing CCTV around the time the offence occurred.”
Last night, St Matthews Big Local, a charity based in the community, said: “We are aware of this incident and are liaising with the police. We ask for the community to stay away from the area and let the police do their investigations.”
One local resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “We didn’t see too much going on, just that there was at least one ambulance there last night and we saw a large group of people out and about in the area. I don’t know what happened but it looked serious.”
