Man dies after falling from Royal Derby Hospital roof as patients told to ‘stay inside’

An entrance was blocked off to Royal Derby Hospital this afternoon due to a police incident outside the A&E. Officers were deployed to the Midlands hospital earlier today after a man fell from the hospital roof and died.

Police were called to the site at around 11.55am due to concerns for the safety of a man. He was given immediate medical attention after falling from the roof but died shortly after.

Witnesses described screams and people crying as they were ushered into the A&E department were told to stay inside for around 30 minutes. A small area was taped off outside the building’s entrance and vehicles arriving at the hospital were being diverted to car park four while police were at the scene, as DerbyshireLive reports. The hospital remained open as usual.
