A man has been stabbed to death and is another is believed to be fighting for life following a violent argument at a Royal British Legion social club in an affluent market town.
A 14-year-old boy is among those arrested on suspicion of murder as a result of the 23-year-old man’s death when the row spilled out onto the street, police revealed today.
Another 23-year-old man was stabbed and was today being treated in hospital for ‘serious injuries’, while a 23-year-old woman received superficial knife wounds.
She was also being treated in hospital but her injuries were said to be ‘not life threatening’.
Police arrested the 14-year-old boy, and three men aged 18, 20 and 29 on suspicion of murder following the attacks in the seaside yachting town of Lymington, Hants.
The injured man and woman are being treated at Southampton General Hospital, Hants.
A Hampshire constabulary spokesman today said: “We were called at 11.55pm on Friday, October 22, to reports of an assault outside The Royal British Legion on High Street, Lymington, following a verbal dispute.
“On arrival, officers found three people – two men and a woman – with stab wounds.
“Sadly, a 23-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. Another 23-year-old man sustained serious injuries, and is currently being treated at Southampton General Hospital.
“A 23-year-old woman received superficial wounds to her chest and is currently being treated at Southampton General Hospital. Her injuries are not life-threatening.
“As part of our enquiries we have arrested four people on suspicion of murder. They are a 29-year-old man from Lymington, a 20-year-old man from Lymington, an 18-year-old man from Lymington and a 14-year-old boy from Lymington.
“They remain in custody at this time.”
DCI Dave Storey, who is leading the murder investigation, appealed for witnesses and said: “This is a serious incident, and our thoughts remain with the family of the young man who was killed.
“We believe this incident occurred following a verbal dispute at The Royal British Legion, and we have arrested four people as part of our enquiries.
“Officers remain on scene and there will be increased patrols in the area. If you have any concerns, or any information about this incident, please do not hesitate to approach officers.”
