A man who slapped his girlfriend after she stripped the sheets off their bed to stop him going back to sleep in the afternoon has been jailed.
Declan Gillies, 21, objected when his partner, Emma Louise Petrie, told him to get up and go to the local shop – even though it was already 1.30 pm.
Prosecutor James Moncrieff told Falkirk Sheriff Court: “They began to argue and he got up eventually.
“On him leaving, she stripped the bed sheets off so when he returned he couldn’t go back to bed.
“It became heated and they began shouting at each other, and he slapped her to the side of her face, causing her glasses to fly from her face.”
Gillies then left the flat, near Westfield Park, Falkirk, where the incident had occurred, and police were called.
He was later arrested, cautioned and charged, and made no reply.
Appearing by video link at Falkirk Sheriff Court, Gillies, of Knightswood, Glasgow, pleaded guilty to domestic assault.

Solicitor James McNair, defending, said: “There was an argument. He doesn’t deny he slapped her.
“It was a spontaneous reaction. He has tried to convey that wasn’t premeditated, and he felt remorseful.”
Gillies, who was initially fined but formally asked for no time to pay, was jailed for 14 days.
