Man staying in £12-a-night hotel leaves after shocking UV light inspection

A man staying at a £12-a-night hotel left after performing a UV inspection on his room, which horrified him enough to find accommodation elsewhere.

Zac Jones, 27, visited in the Highbury hotel in Blackpool where he claims to have paid just £12.80 for an overnight stay. But checking the room with a UV light led to a horror discovery, and he found it to be one of the “worst” inspections of any budget hotel he has been in.

His inspection found potential stains throughout the property in a viral clip posted to social media. “For £12.80 a night I’m impressed,” he said. “[But] I’d rather drive home than stay in that bed.”

Stopping at the hotel for just £12.80, Zac suggested it was not bad for the price

The room came with coffee, tea and a kettle, as well as a TV. Though it was “not a terrible impression”, the UV light revealed some stark problems – with Zak labelling the room “horrible” and “atrocious”.

His inspection was the “worst UV light inspection I’ve ever done”, showing alleged stains on the chair, cupboard and mattress. People online agreed with Zac’s horrified reaction. One wrote: “I first thought it wasn’t too bad but after this never mind I’ll go to a chain hotel.”

Another added: “Hell no.” A third wrote: “I’d be booking a Premier Inn and leaving.” Other users suggested there would be “no way” they would sleep there, though some appreciated that with a bargain comes a lower expectation.

“For £12 I think I’d expect worse,” one user wrote. Another added: “For £12.80 I would still sleep in the bed, even if scenes of crime had just left.” Zac left early but had no issues with the hotel staff as they were “friendly.” He did not expect a refund either, saying the price was “justified” due to the quality of the room and the low cost. He also appeared happy with the shared areas, though he noted some cobwebs and stray hairs.

He added: “The room wasn’t the worst I’ve stayed in, despite the price, and I was blown away when the owner said breakfast [was included] – and that it was included in the price!”

The Highbury Hotel has been approached for comment.
