Man taken to hospital with ‘serious injuries’ after becoming trapped under car in Beeston

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after becoming trapped under a vehicle – described as Land Rover by witnesses – in Beeston. Officers were called to Windsor Street, in Beeston, at around 9.30am on Saturday, August 10, and found a man in his 50s seriously injured.

Police said the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries over reports he’d been “trapped under a vehicle”.

An air ambulance landed in Dovecote Park Recreation Ground, about half a mile from Windsor Street down the A6005 Queens Road, but a witness said he saw a man being put into a road ambulance.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service also attended with engines from the West Bridgford, Highfields and Long Eaton fire stations and a specialist rescue unit from Highfields sent to the scene. Police cordoned off the street.

A staff member at Wicked Haze vape shop nearby said he had gone out for a cigarette at just after 9am and returned to the desk before the incident unfolded. He had spoken to one of a Royal Mail postman who had raised the alarm.

The staff member said he saw a man “working on a Land Rover underneath and the car slipped off the jacks” onto the man, and described seeing the emergency services arrive.

The type of vehicle involved hasn’t been officially confirmed, however.

Another witness said: “There were coppers on foot everywhere. The cordon included a Royal Mail van and there were two postmen sat on the wall within it, talking to police looking rather glum. I can see three fire engines, six police cars and one unmarked car.”

Nottinghamshire Police are now investigating the incident. Chief Inspector Amy Styles-Jones, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We are currently working to understand what happened to this man and would like to hear directly from any witnesses who saw or heard what happened.”

Anyone with additional information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 183 of August 10, 2024. Businesses on Queens Road remained open while the cordon was in place, including Greggs and the nearby Wicked Haze vape shop.
