Pete Taylor’s photographs are a document of a lost time in Manchester and Salford
A fascinating collection of old photographs has surfaced of Manchester and Salford that capture just how much the two cities have changed in 50 years.
The photographs were taken by Pete Taylor, 73, who in the 1970s was a young amateur photographer.
Brought up in East Didsbury, Pete caught the photography bug when he was just a boy from his dad.
Now retired, the ex-Royal Mail worker, and occasional professional photographer, still takes regular trips back to Manchester to photograph the city he grew up in.

Now living in Wilmslow, Pete told the M.E.N: “I go into Manchester about once every six months and try and photograph whatever is left. It’s never stopped changing, as long as I can remember. There’s always something going on.”
A collection of photographs Pete took of Manchester and Salford in the 1970s capture the people, estates and skylines of the era.
Recently, he has posted some of his old photos to Facebook groups like the M.E.N run Greater Manchester history, memories and people, for members to enjoy.
