Marden loses broadband and phones after car crash

A village has been left without broadband connection and landline phones following a car accident.

A collision between a Royal Mail van at the junction of Chantry Road and Church Green in Marden, resulted in one of the vehicles smashing into a green telecommunications junction box.

Several hundred villagers have lost connection as a result, including the Marden Medical Centre.

Repairs have been delayed due to the need for traffic control measures to be arranged so that Openreach engineers can work safely.

An Openreach spokesperson said: “We can confirm that our network was damaged when a car hit our green cabinet in Marden on Saturday, March 25, affecting broadband and landline service to our customers.

“We attended and made the area safe as live power was connected to the cabinet, but there’s a lot of work to do to get the repairs done safely and we expect that work to take at least several days.

“We are hopeful that traffic management permission will be in place to allow re-shelling to commence on April 10.

“We understand how frustrating this must be for anyone is affected and we thank anyone involved for their patience while we get things fixed.

“Anyone experiencing any disruption with their phone or broadband service should report it to their service provider who will then inform us.

“Members of the public can help us by reporting any damage or unsafe equipment on our network via the Help and Support section of our website.”
