Martin Lewis issues urgent Uber Eats warning as customers can save £10 on order

The renowned money saving expert has flagged an upcoming deal that could save NHS and HSC staff £10 when using Uber Eats delivery service. By providing a valid code on Christmas Eve and Day, those with an NHS or HSC email can enjoy this festive offer which is applicable on takeaway and grocery services offered by Uber, subject to availability in your area.

However, Martin Lewis highlighted that the discount is exclusive to these two dates and requires a valid promotional code to be added to your account prior to ordering. Explaining further on his Money Saving Expert website, Martin stated: “If you’re an NHS or HSC worker and have a valid NHS/HSC email address, you can get one £10 code to use on the Uber Eats app between 12.01am on Christmas Eve and 11.59pm on Christmas Day. It’s valid for the first 30,000 who order, and you’ll be able to use it for a takeaway, or for a grocery delivery, depending on what’s available on those days in your local area.”

He insisted that to benefit from the discount, the code MUST be applied before any orders are placed.

Additionally, he mentioned that the offer cannot be combined with orders that include alcohol or tobacco products. Martin continued: “Simply add your NHS/HSC email address to your Uber account by 11.59pm on Friday 20 December and you’ll receive an email with your £10 code.”

Anyone not yet with an Uber Eats account should download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play and sign up using their NHS/HSC worker email address. Bear in mind, though, if your order exceeds £10, you’ll have to cover the rest, reports the Mirror.

Martin also highlighted that along with the delivery offer, eligible workers could nab £20 of free Uber rides. On a separate note, families are being cautioned about the risks of ‘buy now pay later’ (BNPL) schemes as Christmas looms.

While new regulations on these schemes have been acknowledged as a positive step by MoneySavingExpert’s Martin, he pointed out that they won’t kick in until January 2026. Consequently, consumers this festive season, and even the next, won’t enjoy the consumer protections typically associated with other financial transactions.

The forthcoming rules, addressing affordability checks and standard fairness, aim to curtail the “completely unregulated Wild West” of BNPL services, Martin said. Although a free financial ombudsman service might resolve disputes, Martin stressed: “It’s important to understand with Christmas coming up and people use buy now pay later a lot, this Christmas and frankly next Christmas you still won’t be regulated.”

“So, be very wary before using buy now pay later at the moment. It can work well for some. But it is unregulated, you do not have the standard consumer protections and this thing called the consumer duty which basically means firms have to treat you fairly.”
