Martin Lewis’ MSE shares update as Royal Mail reveals useful tool

Money Saving Expert, founded by Martin Lewis, is advising stamp owners to try out the new Royal Mail scanner. The postal service has launched a ‘fake stamp scanner’ feature that allows users to verify the authenticity of their stamps, as confirmed by the financial guru’s website.

Royal Mail is also extending its grace period for waiving the £5 penalty fee normally charged when a letter with a counterfeit stamp is received. To access the feature, simply navigate to ‘Stamps’ within the app, then select ‘Counterfeit stamp scanner’, and use your phone’s camera to scan the stamp.

The app will inform you if the stamp is real or fake. In a statement, Royal Mail said: “We’re always adding great new features and improvements to give the best Royal Mail experience, on our app. Receive instant push notification updates on progress of your deliveries.”

“Buy postage in just a few simple steps, we can collect your items and bring the label or you can drop off. Book collections for your items when you purchase postage, or for items you already have labels for.”

Additionally, the company stated: “Set a Safeplace for your items when you’re not in. We’ll automatically attempt delivery again the next working day, or you can book a redelivery on the app. Find Postboxes, Lockers, Parcel Postboxes, and Parcelshops (including Collect+ and Post Office branches),” reports Birmingham Live.

MSE issued a warning: “Royal Mail has confirmed it will continue to temporarily waive the £5 penalty fee for anyone receiving a letter with a fake stamp on it, adding that this temporary pause will be kept “under review”. This means that instead of being charged, the letter you receive will have a sticker on it telling you a fake stamp has been used.”

“Unfortunately, you WON’T be reimbursed if you believe you were wrongly charged prior to the pause, as Royal Mail has confirmed it won’t be issuing backdated refunds.”
