Martin Lewis shares trick to save money when sending parcels this Christmas

Martin Lewis, 48, appeared on his show tonight with co-host Angellica Bell, 44, to share his money saving tips. He shared his tricks on how Brits can save money when sending parcels this Christmas.

If the parcel is bigger than a kilogram in weight, Martin recommends going to a reseller.

On the topic, he explained: “These are companies who buy up the spare capacity of the big parcel firms, your UPS, your Hermes, your DHL, and they sell it on more cheaply than they do directly.

“There are lots of them about… You want to check two or three of them to see who the cheapest price is.

“For example, three kilogram parcel to Spain – £37 Royal Mail, £33 UPS direct, £20 via a reseller, that was actually ParcelForce was the company it was using.”

This is the second price increase this year, the first being in March.

Royal Mail said the latest increase was “necessary to help ensure the sustainability” of the service.

They added that despite the small increase, they still were “among the best value in Europe,” for stamp prices.

The postal service also shared some important scam advice ahead of the busy Christmas period which sees more people receiving letters and parcels.

One scam email circulating sees fraudsters purporting to be from Royal Mail, who claim they have an undelivered letter for customers and in order to receive it, they must pay £1.99 extra.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “Royal Mail Group takes a serious approach to scam mail and understands the upset that it can cause households across the country, including vulnerable people.

“We urge any members of the public who believe they or a family member is receiving scam mail can report it to our dedicated helpline on scam.mail@royalmail.com, or 0800 0113466.

“Alternatively, they can contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or visit their website and use their online reporting tool.”
