Martin Lewis urges anybody sending Christmas presents to make four checks

The Martin Lewis Money Show has returned for its latest instalment on ITV1 – with some brilliant festive tips.

Financial expert Martin was in the ITV1 studio to discuss sending Christmas parcels and packages ahead of December 25.

And he revealed his four main tips for sending cheaper gifts in the post ahead of Christmas Day.

The Money Saving Expert urged viewers at home to work out whether retailers or stores they were buying from could send directly.

Alternatively, Mr Lewis urged viewers to check Royal Mail for parcels under 1kg (UK & abroad), explaining: “If its smaller than 1kg in weight then Royal Mail is pretty good.

“You may be able to beat it in certain circumstances but generally it’s pretty competitive.”

He continued to advise checking resellers for parcels over 1kg (UK & abroad), adding: “These are companies that buy up the spare capacity that big parcel firms – UPS, Hermes, DHL and they sell it on more cheaply than they do directly.”

But he also had a customer warning over that point – before adding one final tip: check you’re insured for valuable items.

“You must check BEFORE you send,” Mr Lewis said.
