Martin Lewis has issued a warning over the rising cost of stamps – as Money Saving Expert explains: “You’ve got less than a week left.” The ITV The Martin Lewis Money Show and BBC Sounds podcast host has called on UK households to stock up before the April hike.
MSE warned today: “You’ve got less than a week left to stock up on Royal Mail postage stamps before prices rise by up to 13% on Tuesday 2 April.” The money website and consumer hub has also explained it is the “last chance” to stock up.
Mr Lewis, founder of MoneySavingExpert.com, said: “For years, every time stamps go up in price I’ve suggested people stock up and bulk-buy in advance, as provided the stamp doesn’t have a price on it and instead just says the postage class, it’s still valid after the hike.

“This has been an effective tactic, as a first-class letter stamp is now £1.25, soon to be rising to £1.35 – in 2012 it was just 60p. So you may as well stock up now.” Royal Mail said: “We would always recommend that customers buy their stamps from reputable high street outlets and, where possible, to get a receipt. Stamps are also available directly from the Royal Mail online shop.”
Royal Mail added: “We update our prices at key points in the year and let our customers know in advance. If you would like to see more information on how we will be changing our prices please visit royalmail.com/prices2024” It added: “Price changes to our online and Post Office products and services include 1st and 2nd Class Letters, Large Letters and Parcels, Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed and Royal Mail Signed For.”
It also includes Royal Mail Tracked (Non-Account), Redirection, Keepsafe, PO Box, Diversions, Timed Delivery, Pre Sorted Delivery, Early Extraction, Selectapost and Do Not Redirect.”
