INDIANAPOLIS — Barry Gallon, a 54-year-old resident of McCordsville, has been sentenced to one year of probation after admitting to stealing cash from mail while employed at the Indianapolis Processing and Distribution Center. Gallon pleaded guilty to theft of mail matter by an officer or employee, a felony offense.
Court documents state that Gallon, who served as a Maintenance Manager at the facility for seven years, engaged in theft between August 31, 2023, and September 20, 2023. During this period, he extracted cash from various letters, packages, and bags within the mainstream of the distribution center, totaling no more than $6,500.
U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Myers emphasized the importance of integrity within the U.S. Postal Service, noting that the service is a crucial resource that depends on the trust of the American public. Myers stated that criminal actions by public servants, especially those exploiting their positions, necessitate strict accountability. The felony conviction ensures that Gallon will not return to a position of trust.
- Police Seek Suspect in D.C. Business Burglary
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Authorities are requesting the public’s assistance in locating a suspect involved in a business burglary in Northeast Washington.
On July 30, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers responded to the 1900 block of 9th Street, Northeast, after receiving a report of a burglary. The victim reported that the suspect forced entry into the business, stole money, and fled the scene.
The suspect and the vehicle used in the burglary were captured on surveillance cameras.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the police at (202) 727-9099 or text a tip to 50411. A reward of up to $1,000 is offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of those responsible.
- Fatal Collision in Southeast D.C. Leaves One Dead
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A fatal traffic crash occurred early Sunday morning in Southeast Washington, leaving one driver dead and another pedestrian injured.
On Sunday, at approximately 3:32 a.m., a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a female and carrying a female passenger was traveling eastbound on East Capitol Street in the 5200 block. The vehicle struck several cars and overturned, landing on its roof.
A male and female passerby stopped to assist the occupants of the overturned vehicle. During this time, a 2013 Lexus GS350, also traveling eastbound, struck both the male pedestrian and the Malibu. The Lexus driver fled the scene on foot.
The male pedestrian was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Both occupants of the Malibu were also taken to an area hospital, where the driver, identified as 34-year-old Taneisha Parker of Capitol Heights, MD, later died from her injuries.
Around 4:26 a.m., a person matching the description of the Lexus driver was found at a DCFEMS firehouse on 49th Street, Northeast, with injuries consistent with a traffic crash. The driver, identified as 39-year-old Terrance Gordan of Southeast D.C., was arrested and charged with Unlawful Entry and Leaving After Colliding. Additional charges are pending further investigation.
- Wilkes-Barre Police Detain Man for Public Intoxication
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — On July 25, at approximately 10:33 a.m., Wilkes-Barre City Police detained Joseph Jackiel, 68, for public intoxication near South Pennsylvania Avenue.
Officers on patrol found Jackiel lying unresponsive on a concrete barrier by the railroad tracks. Upon contact, they determined that he was significantly under the influence of alcohol and posed a danger to himself. Jackiel was taken into custody and held until he was sober.
