Medal haul for karate clubs

Martial artists from Barnsley have been busy with competitions taking place in Sheffield and London recently.

There was a big medal haul at the British International Karate Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

Steph Hudson took home a gold in para kata for the blind and visually impaired.

Shoany Hudson won silver in the same category.

Bobby Perry won a silver in para kata and there was bronze in pairs kata for Lucia Crossland and Mable Hardcastle.

Jake Li (gold), Rob Crosse (silver) and Jonny Burden (bronze) were all successful in kata.

Shoany also won silver at the English International Karate Championships at Crystal Palace in London.

A bronze was claimed by Steph Hudson at the same event and there was a siler for Li and bronze for Burden.

Coach John Tumman said: “These two events were over two days and it was a very high level of competition.

“Well done to all the squad members, parents and supporters, some kids go out in the first round but we all work as a team to help and encourage everyone to improve for the next tournament.

“I’m very proud of the whole squad for their resilience and determination and to get the name Barnsley on the results table.”
