Alexi Lubomirski was chosen by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to snap their official engagement and wedding photos which were distributed around the world and made into postage stamps by the Royal Mail. This month marks two years since the Queen’s grandson formally introduced his then-girlfriend to the world as the pair announced their plan to marry. To remember the occasion, Mr Lubomirski took to Instagram to share a previously unseen picture of the couple shortly on their wedding day and tell of how he was called upon to do the job.
The 44-year-old Briton, who is based in New York, said he was sitting in a hospital waiting room as a loved one recovered from brain surgery when his phone rang.
He explained how “out of the blue” a palace aide asked him if he would be up for the royal project.
The snapper said: “Two years ago today, Kensington Palace called my phone, out of the blue, whilst I was sitting in a hospital waiting room, waiting for a family member to wake up after a 10-hour brain surgery, to ask if I would be interested in doing a project together.
“Two weeks later, I was shooting the official engagement portraits of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”
The fashion and celebrity photographer, who descends from Polish nobility, photographed Harry, 35, and Meghan, 38, at Frogmore House for their official engagement portraits.
The candid snaps showed Meghan wearing a Ralph & Russo couture ball gown and her royal beau in the grounds of the mansion.

“Happy memories! P.S. The family member is doing great!”
He posted a newly released photo of Harry and Meghan in the Queen’s Rose Garden in the grounds of Windsor Castle taken after they tied the knot.
The black-and-white image captures the couple embracing each other, with a giddy Meghan slightly bent forward while Harry looks into the distance.
Mr Lubomirski has previously worked alongside renowned photographer Mario Testino.
Mr Testino is widely known for his work with Harry’s late mother Princess Diana.
Today, Harry, Meghan and baby Archie are celebrating their first Thanksgiving since becoming parents.
While the family-of-three are thought to be with Meghan’s mum Doria Ragland it is not known if they are gathering in the UK or Meghan’s country of birth, the US.
