Meghan Markle has not spoken to Kate Middleton since Megxit, source tells Us Weekly

Meghan Markle has not spoken to Kate Middleton since she and Prince Harry quit as senior members of the Royal Family, a source has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their decision to step down on January 8, and are both currently in Canada after Harry joined his wife and son there last week.

Former actress Meghan has reportedly ‘never been happier’ since the split and is ‘happy to be out out of London’.

‘Kate and Meghan have not spoken since [the royal exit] happened,’ the source told Us Weekly.

‘Meghan feels free. She has never been happier. She’s happy to be out of London.’

They added: ‘She was surprised at how quickly everything happened. They knew they’d have to relinquish their titles, but the pace it happened surprised everyone.

‘The palace thought it would take longer, but they went with it.’

FEMAIL has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.

In a statement issued on January 18, the Queen, who took control of the crisis that threatened to permanently damage the monarchy, praised Meghan for ‘quickly’ becoming one of the Royal Family.

She thanked the couple for the work they had done, saying she was pleased they had found a constructive way to move forward.

Her Majesty also expressed her desire for the family to create a ‘happy and peaceful life’ which the couple intend to purse in North America where they can set their own agenda and make money how they choose.

Despite being surprised by Harry and Meghan’s announcement on January 8 that they wished to step back as senior royals, the Queen revealed that she had been aware of the couple’s unhappiness and desire to pursue a less prominent role.

Following the bombshell summit at Sandringham to discuss the Sussexes’ future, the brothers are said to have reconciled their differences, helped by the Duchess of Sussex and Duchess of Cambridge.

A source told The Sun the conversations between them were ‘ground-breaking’ in terms of saving their bond as brothers and was ‘totally driven by them’.

‘But Kate and Meghan, who was in Canada, did join in with some of the talks on more than one occasion — which is another sign of a real thaw in their relationship. Things are better,’ they continued, adding: ‘Given Harry is now permanently moving away, there was a realisation if they didn’t sort things out now, they never would.’

Despite patching things up with William, it is understood Harry has not made the breakthrough with father Charles.

Following Megxit, it was announced that Harry and Meghan will no longer use their HRH titles and will repay around £2.4 million of taxpayers’ money spent refurbishing their Frogmore Cottage.

At a charity event for his charity Sentabale, Harry spoke of his ‘great sadness’ at leaving the Royal Family and said he and his wife had ‘no other option’ than to quit senior royal duties – but vowed the couple are ‘not just walking away’.

Last week a friend of the duchess told DailyMail.com that Meghan had informed close friends quitting the royal family is the best thing that could ever happen to Prince Harry and said ‘it was her love for him that made this possible’.

‘She said that like her, his spirit was being crushed and she simply couldn’t stand to see him suffer anymore,’ the friend added.

Meghan herself was seen beaming while out for a walk with Archie and her two dogs that morning.

Meghan and Harry also have no intention of stripping the word ‘royal’ from their SussexRoyal website according to the insider, who added: ‘Meghan says they will always be considered royalty regardless of where they live or what they do.’
