Meghan Markle IS liked by the Queen but there’s a problem, says royal expert David Starkey | Royal | News

Meghan Markle is one of the newest additions to the Royal Family having married Prince Harry in May 2018. Members of the British Royal Family adhere to a series of conventions, customs and behaviours related to etiquette. The Duchess of Sussex, formerly an actress, had a platform upon which to share her message, champion the causes she supports – but now as a royal, the manner by which she can present and vocalise these has changed. But why does the Queen, who is sweet on the Duchess, concerned she is being held back by her “Hollywood entitlement”?

According to royal author David Starkey, the Queen is a keen fan of Meghan Markle.

This fact was well-publicised by the Sussex couple during their engagement interview when Prince Harry said Meghan had won over the Queen, a renowned dog lover, through her corgi’s.

During the BBC engagement interview, Prince Harry said: “And the corgis took to you straight away…

“I’ve spent the last 33 years being barked at. This one walks in, absolutely nothing… Just wagging tails and I was just like ugh.”

But Meghan has struggled to receive such a universally positive reaction from members of the public this year.

When the royal finances were published, people condemned the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for spending £2.4million on renovating Frogmore Cottage.

Later this year, the couple faced backlash once again when they excluded the media, and thereby the public, from baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s christening, breaking the tradition set by Prince William and Kate Middleton where the family walk past and wave to the cameras as they enter the chapel for the christening.

The most recent scandal is the private jet controversy whereby the couple came under fire when it was discovered they had used four private jets in 11 days.

However, despite these stumbles, the Queen reportedly truly cares for Meghan Markle.

Mr Starkey, a television presenter who has once enjoyed lunch with the Queen, said Meghan had won over the  monarch, but the trouble is she “has brought too much Hollywood entitlement with her”.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Mr Starkey said: “The Queen likes Meghan.

“The Queen immediately made her and Harry ambassadors for the Commonwealth, which is the only thing that the Queen really cares about.”

He added : “The problem is she has brought too much Hollywood entitlement with her.

“But her hypocrisy is just the same as any other member of the Hollywood elite: they all proclaim their eco-sensitivity while flying their private jets.

“But she gets skewered — they, on the whole, don’t. She is the ‘woke’ member of the family.”

However, Meghan has undertaken a number of initiatives to counter these negative stories which have upset some members of the public.

Recently, the Duchess launched a fashion collection called Smart Works which is a charitable line.

The clothing capsule collection was created by the Duchess of Sussex and Smart Works with collaborations with brands John Lewis & Partners, Marks & Spencer, Jigsaw and Misha Nonoo.

It was created in order to create a perfect working wardrobe for Smart Works clients.

For every item bought during the sale of the collection, which will last for at least two weeks, one will be donated to Smart Works which means for every item bought by a customer, another woman will be directly helped.

Meghan Markle said:“Since moving to the UK, it has been deeply important to me to meet with communities and organisations on the ground doing meaningful work and to try to do whatever I can to help them amplify their impact.

“When you buy any item in the Smart Set Capsule Collection for Smart Works, the same item will be given to a Smart Works client, and with it, the confidence and support she needs to enter the workforce and take an important step in building a career.

“Thank you to the four brands who came together in supporting Smart Works on this special project – placing purpose over profit and community over competition.

“In convening several companies rather than one, we’ve demonstrated how we can work collectively to empower each other – another layer to this communal success story, that I am so proud to be a part of.”

Meghan Markle has also committed herself to a number of causes which are seen as keen opportunities to show her philanthropic nature.

For instance, during her upcoming tour to Africa with the Duke and her son, Meghan is due to speak out on “gender violence” while in South Africa.

These initiatives have so far been very well received by the public and royal fans are hopeful that will continue and Meghan will continue to shed any “Hollywood entitlement” she may possess.
