Meghan Markle news: Duchess of Sussex defended over ITV GMB Piers Morgan attacks | Royal | News

Piers Morgan is a vocal critic of the Duchess and often uses his platform to berate her. But fans of Meghan Markle and royal commentators have hit out and asked whether Mr Morgan is, himself, “obsessed” with the Duchess. The former Daily Mirror editor’s latest nasty jibe came after it was revealed on Sunday Meghan is guest-editing the September issue of British Vogue.

Mr Morgan was critical of the move in a ranting Daily Mail column, saying: “She constantly bleats about privacy, then edits Vogue.”

But lashing out at the journalist on Australian news programme The Today Show, presenter Brett McLeod claimed Mr Morgan was “weird” and suggested he “seek help” for his “obsession” with the Duchess.

Mr McLeod said: “Piers Morgan’s never gotten over the fact that Meghan Markle stopped returning his texts.

“He used to go on about how they were best mates and then she ghosted him.

“And he’s now obsessed with her.

“It used to be weirdly amusing, now it’s just weird.

“And yet another full column attacking her.

“If guest-editing a magazine is the worst crime she can commit according to Piers Morgan, mate, you have got to get some help.”

Also rushing to Meghan’s defence, her fans were quick to question Mr Morgan’s continued attacks.

Among thousands of messages of support, one Twitter user said: “Do you realise how pathetic writing like this sounds? @piersmorgan

“Two months ago, Meghan Markle was reportedly ‘too busy caring for her baby’ to meet the President of her own country on his state visit to the UK.”

Someone else wrote: “I am so sick of this smear campaign against Meghan Markle.

“She’s damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t.”

And another said: “Are you Piers Morgan-Markle?

“I see a resemblance between you and Daddy Markle – it could be true.

“Meghan Markle is a boss. Keep going, Meghan.”

Of Meghan’s contribution to British Vogue the magazine’s editor Edward Enninful shared how delighted he was.

The fashion journalist said: “To have the country’s most influential beacon of change guest edit British Vogue at this time has been an honour, a pleasure and a wonderful surprise.”

He added: “As you will see from her selections throughout this magazine, she is also willing to wade into more complex and nuanced areas, whether they concern female empowerment, mental health, race or privilege.”

Meghan felt it would look like she was “boasting” had she featured on the cover of the publication given its themes.

Explaining her reasoning, Mr Enninful said: “From the very beginning, we talked about the cover – whether she would be on it or not.

“In the end, she felt that it would be in some ways a ‘boastful’ thing to do for this particular project.

“She wanted, instead, to focus on the women she admires.”

Meghan hoped people would become inspired by the special issue, and said: “Through this lens, I hope you’ll feel the strength of the collective in the diverse selection of women chosen for the cover as well as the team of support I called upon within the issue to help bring this to light.

“I hope readers feel as inspired as I do, by the forces for change they’ll find within these pages.

“These last seven months have been a rewarding process, curating and collaborating with Edward Enninful to take the year’s most-read fashion issue and steer its focus to the values, causes and people making an impact in the world today.”
