Meghan Markle’s ‘regal’ makeup makeover: Duchess ditches Hollywood glam for ‘refined, royal aesthetic’ as she opts for ‘rosy cheeks, softer brows and peachy lips’ on Colombian tour, expert says

Meghan Markle has ditched her Hollywood glam and opted for more ‘regal, sophisticated and mature’ makeup during her four-day tour of Colombia, an expert has revealed.

Makeup artist Laura Kay told FEMAIL that the Duchess of Sussex, 43, has embraced a ‘more refined, royal aesthetic’ – complete with ‘rosy cheeks, softer brows and peachy lips’.

The American mother-of-two, who donned three sophisticated ensembles for her and Prince Harry’s first day of engagements in the South American nation yesterday, is known to often do her own hair and makeup.

She was without a stylist during her quasi-royal tour to Nigeria in May 2024, and did her own hair and makeup ahead of getting on stage and speaking at the Invictus Games in Germany in September 2023.

It’s unclear if Meghan is again without a stylist during her visit to Colombia. MailOnline has contacted representatives of the Duchess of Sussex for comment.

Meghan Markle (pictured yesterday) has ditched her Hollywood glam and opted for more ‘regal, sophisticated and mature’ makeup during her four-day tour of Colombia, an expert has revealed

Laura, founder at Laura Kay London, said: ‘Meghan Markle’s latest look marks a distinctive evolution from her Hollywood glam days that she used to love to a more refined, royal aesthetic.

‘Yesterday, at Centro Nacional de las Artes Delia Zapata, she appeared to be embracing a more sophisticated, mature, and elegant vibe.

‘What first catches the eye is her shift to fresh, peachy, and pink tones, giving her complexion a regal feel. It’s a noticeable move from her past bronzed and dewy, Kardashian-inspired look – also perhaps a clever nod or reminder of her royal roots.’

The expert also noted how the Duchess’ eye makeup appeared to be different this time around.

‘She used to love smudgy eye shadow, blending it across her entire lid to create an intense, glamorous look that commanded attention,’ said Laura.

‘But now, she has moved away from that, and her makeup is significantly more defined and refined than we’ve seen in a long while. In fact, it is more reminiscent of her wedding day.

‘Her look is now more sophisticated. She has swapped her usual creamy, glossy makeup for a more traditional look.

‘The bold eyeliner and glamorous lash extensions are back, but with a twist – her eyelids now feature a muted, reddish-brown hue edged with a shimmering highlight to make her eyes pop.

‘She has not used as much blending as previously, and her eye makeup application is more concentrated. Also, her brows, while still well-defined, appear slightly softer, adding to the overall fresh and sophisticated feel.

‘Her cheeks have a cupid-like, rosy flush that perfectly compliments her return to a more royal look. The clever makeup application draws you in naturally.

‘Her days of loving a nude lip with a gloss finish have been replaced here by a more peachy tone. She definitely is showcasing a fresher and more formal look than we are used to seeing.’

While a working member of the royal family Meghan would often do her own hair and make-up.

‘She just likes doing her own makeup. Meghan has her makeup done for some special occasions but likes to do it herself,’ a source told US weekly in 2019.

Meanwhile, celebrity make-up artist Daniel Martin, who cemented himself in the history books when he did Meghan’s make-up for her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018, revealed how the Duchess did her own makeup recently.

Speaking to US Weekly in June 2024, Meghan’s friend Daniel said: ‘She’s in Nigeria right now. It’s just her. There’s no stylist, there’s no hairdresser.

‘She’s doing everything herself and she’s so good at it. I mean, she loves some blush. She loves the cheek. She loves a big brow.’

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Sussex, 43, looked more loved-up than ever with her husband, 39, as the couple enjoyed their first day of engagements on their four-day tour of Colombia.

During one particularly tender moment between the pair, Meghan sweetly placed her head on Harry’s shoulder while he wrapped his arm around his beaming wife and placed a kiss on her hair.

But that wasn’t the only affectionate moment between the pair, who at times appeared to struggle to keep their hands off one another.

Numerous photos show the loved-up couple holding hands while watching folk dancers on the first day of their visit to the South American nation.

Meghan and Harry, who live with their two children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three, in their $14 million Montecito home, were treated to a vibrant tribal dance at the Delia Zapata National Centre for the Arts.

The Duchess chatted to vice president Francia Márquez and pointed to some of the costumes, before shaking hands with the dancers at the end of the performance.

She looked stylish as she changed into her second look of the tour – a colourful maxi dress by Johanna Ortiz, who has Colombian heritage.

The Duchess opted for the $2,150 burgundy Navajo Weaver Metallic Tweed Maxi Dress, and styled her hair into loose waves after her earlier up-do.

She wowed in the look, which boasted a slit up the thigh and featured a stylish cut-out in the middle.

Though the dress itself appeared to be new, Meghan wore a very similar look on her ‘quasi-royal’ tour of Africa back in May, wearing a £2,275 striped sundress also by Johanna Ortiz.

Meghan kept the same jewellery from earlier in the day, but also appeared to add her $12,800 Cartier ‘juste un clou’ necklace, which she has sported many times before.

She gave a sweet nod to the hosting country, as the dress is made in Colombia itself.  It’s also practical – featuring removable ruffle sleeves and being cool for the climate, as well as stylish in nature.

Earlier, Meghan proved her fashion prowess once again today as she stepped out in Colombia alongside Prince Harry to begin their four-day tour of the South American nation.

She put on a stylish display in a £596 collared vest from New York-based brand Veronica Beard.

Looking effortlessly elegant, the mother-of-two teamed her sleeveless, buttoned garment with matching navy, ankle-grazing trousers from the designer, priced at £349.33.

Cinched at the waist to flatter the Duchess’ slender figure, the smart ensemble was paired with black Manolo Blahnik high heels and a cream $4,700 handbag from Italian company Loro Piana.

Harry and Meghan were met in the capital Bogota by Colombia’s vice president Francia Marquez and her husband Rafael Yerney Pinillo on Thursday.
