MFG is introducing Royal Mail parcel lockers at over 500 of its petrol stations, having already expanded its activity in this footfall-driving area last month.
The first of the red-branded smart units, complete with label printing, have opened at the Top 50 Indie’s Shepton Mallet and Canterbury sites.
MFG has parcel lockers in place with several providers including Quadient and Yeep, the latter with which it is rolling out 370 units by the end of July.
As the largest operator of ultra-rapid EV charging points in the UK, MFG is keen to develop its on-site services, including laundry machines, for motorists charging vehicles looking to fill dwell time.
Royal Mail, meanwhile, which launched its locker network in December has 1,900 lockers in various types of locations. It announced at the National Convenience Show in April that it was targeting forecourts as part of its ambitions to become the biggest self-service parcel locker provider in the UK, despite being a late arrival to the market.
At the time it was talking to other Top 50 Indie forecourt operators Sterling Petroleum and Karan Retail about installing its lockers at their sites.
Anna Malley, director of partnerships and acquisitions at Royal Mail, says the partnership will make Royal Mail’s network more accessible to its customers.
“We are working hard to give customers as many options as possible for sending, returning and collecting parcels, on top of delivering and collecting from every address in the UK,” she says.
Anna Lomas, commercial director at MFG, adds: “We are delighted to establish our new partnership with the Royal Mail. We believe that the Royal Mail brand will bring significant benefit to MFG’s customers and contribute to our strategy to be a ‘one-stop’ shop for our customers.”
