Mr Hussain, who lives on Roydstone Terrace, off Leeds Old Road, contacted the Telegraph & Argus after realising that neither he nor his father who rely on postal notifications for bills and banking had received any post for a month.
Royal Mail says deliveries in the affected area are now up to date, despite recent “short‑term disruptions due to resourcing pressures.”
A spokesperson said: “All items due for delivery in the area have now been delivered and the service is up to date.”
‘Where has this post been for a month?’
Mr Hussain said he first became concerned when he received a text alert from his bank telling him a new card had been issued. The card never arrived.
“When I didn’t get the bank card, that’s when I thought: wait a minute, something’s not right,” he said.
His father, who prefers to receive physical bills due to not being confident online, also reported missing utilities statements.
“He usually gets his electric bill around the 10th of each month. He kept saying, ‘Where is it?’ but nothing was coming,” Mr Hussain said.
Bulk mail arrives weeks late
Mr Hussain said that soon after lodging a formal complaint, a large bundle of post was finally delivered.
On opening it, he discovered letters dated as far back as February 20, along with several due‑payment reminders from utility companies.
“And now we’re on the 20th of March. Where has that post been?,” he added.
Mr Hussain said: “We got reminder letters saying to get in touch if you’re struggling to pay, but we never got the original bills, only the follow ups. That’s how people end up with bad credit.”
Among the delayed post were his missing bank card, his electric and gas bills, and other documents essential to his father, who has ongoing health issues.
Residents worried issue affects whole street
Mr Hussain said the matter is causing “a lot of stress” for his father, who has anxiety, and suspects several neighbours may also be affected.
He added that he had not seen their regular postman “for three weeks or longer”, and that parcels continued to come, but not letters.
Concern for missed medical letters
Mr Hussain also raised fears that delayed NHS appointment letters could have dire consequences.
He said: “My mother has Crohn’s colitis, and she needs appointments for that. If she doesn’t get [the letters], she’ll be marked as not attending. That’s really bad.”
He added: “It’s been a month. Something is not right here,”
Royal Mail apologises to Mr Hussain
Mr Hussain said he is keen for Royal Mail to investigate properly, and Royal Mail have now confirmed that all deliveries in this area are up to date.
A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “All items due for delivery in the area have now been delivered and the service is up to date.
“We know how important it is that customers receive their mail as expected. While there have been some short-term disruptions due to resourcing pressures, deliveries have continued in the area, and we have no record of any address going several weeks without receiving mail.”
