Moment Huddersfield postie ran over by own van as runaway vehicle crashes into car

Watch the moment Huddersfield postie ran over by own van before driverless vehicle reverses into traffic

This is the moment a postman was run over by his own van – which then ploughed into traffic without a driver.

The Royal Mail van had been stationary on Blackmoorfoot Road in Huddersfield, but started to roll down the hill. A video shows the van increasing in speed as it rolled down the hill, with cars veering out of the way. The van eventually crashed into a black Ford KA, coming to a stop.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police were called to Blackmoorfoot Road, Huddersfield, at just after 12pm to a report a man had been seriously injured in a collision. Emergency services attended the scene where it was reported a van, which had been stationary, had rolled forwards and collided with its driver who was in the road. The van then rolled downhill, hitting other cars before coming to rest.

“The van driver, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which are serious but are not being treated as life-threatening. A road closure was put in place on Blackmoorfoot Road at the junction with Park Road West for investigation and recovery work.”
