More staff concerns over Covid-19 safety at Royal Mail Malvern Delivery Office

ANOTHER whistle-blower has come forward with concerns over working conditions at the Royal Mail Malvern Delivery Office.

The image above is taken from video footage captured by the employee earlier this month amid the coronavirus pandemic, following another whistle-blower contacting the paper to discuss claims staff are not being protected properly from Covid-19, despite bosses denying the claims.

Employees in the 45-second video clip taken on October 2 this year, provided by the source who does not want to be named, shows some staff members in uniform standing close together and not wearing a mask while others appear to be socially distanced and wearing protection.

Royal Mail confirmed earlier in the month that eight staff members had “recently” tested positive for coronavirus at the delivery office in Abbey Road, Malvern and were isolating at home.

Bosses said several “intensive cleans” have been carried out and that “we are continuing to ensure that personal protective equipment is available to all who want it.”

The latest whistle-blower to come forward told the Worcester News: “No temperature checks are being carried out, no hand sanitiser is available, and staff are not wearing masks, and there is no social distancing at all.

“I’m concerned about the residents of Malvern as well as staff.”

Responding to the second whistle-blower, a spokesman for Royal Mail said: “Throughout this crisis, every decision we make puts the health of our people and customers first. We have a range of preventive measures in place to protect both our customers and our colleagues. As well as encouraging good hand hygiene, standard ways of working have been revised to ensure that colleagues maintain appropriate social distancing at all times.”

The spokesman said no staff at the depot are currently Covid-19 positive and the isolating staff are not back at work
