Watchdogs are investigating more than 20 law firms and individual solicitors for potential professional misconduct in the Post Office saga.
In a statement today, the Solicitors Regulation Authority for the first time confirmed roughly how many firms and lawyers were in the frame for possible disciplinary action.
“We have more than 20 live investigations into solicitors and law firms who were working on behalf of the Post Office/Royal Mail Group,” said the authority, which regulates more than 180,000 lawyers in England and Wales. It would not provide any names.
Officials said that none of the investigations could be concluded until the inquiry into the Post Office scandal had finished.
