More than 200 Redditch residents report missing or delayed post

MORE THAN 200 Redditch residents have reported missing or delayed postal deliveries over the Christmas period.

People in Inkberrow said they had gone weeks without receiving a single letter, while others have reported vital correspondence – including NHS appointment letters – arriving after the appointment date had already passed.

Problems were particularly acute over the Christmas period.

Redditch MP Chris Bloore has written to Ofcom calling for urgent intervention.

Despite repeated assurances from Royal Mail that services would improve, constituents say there has been no meaningful change.

Residents in Malvern and Worcester have also reported the same problem, with their MPs also trying to get to the root of the issue.



Writing to the communications regulator Ofcom, Mr Bloore has asked what action would be taken to ensure Royal Mail met its statutory obligations and restored a reliable postal service for Inkberrow residents.

Mr Bloore said: “Some residents in Inkberrow are going weeks without receiving a single letter.

“This is not a minor inconvenience – it is a serious failure that is having real consequences for people’s lives.

“I have heard from constituents who received NHS appointment letters after the appointment had already passed, which is completely unacceptable.

“Royal Mail has repeatedly told residents services would improve but those promises have not been kept.

“With over 200 people raising the same concerns, it is clear these problems are persistent and systemic.

“That is why I have raised this matter directly with Ofcom.

“People deserve a postal service they can rely on and Royal Mail must be held to account.

“I will continue to press for urgent action until this situation is resolved.”

The MP has encouraged constituents affected by postal delays to continue reporting issues to his office so they can be raised directly with both Ofcom and Royal Mail.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “Data shows that more than 99 per cent of first class and second class letters and parcels posted by the last recommended dates were delivered by Christmas Eve.

“This was during our busiest time of year, when volumes more than double, and we’re grateful to our teams who worked incredibly hard to deliver for our customers.

“Last week’s severe weather conditions and an increase in sickness absence have had an impact on deliveries to some addresses locally.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and our posties are going above and beyond to ensure daily deliveries resume as quickly as possible.

“We have recently met with Harriett Baldwin and have scheduled meetings with Tom Collins and Chris Bloore to discuss their concerns.”
