Motorbike-riding raiders target Stoke-on-Trent Co-op in 3.45am smash-and-grab

Police are hunting raiders dressed all in black who targeted a Stoke-on-Trent Co-op store in the middle of the night. The pair broke into the Co-op, in Mayne Road, Hanford, at around 3.45am yesterday (February 21).

They then fled the scene on a trial bike with no lights on after stealing an unspecified amount of cash. It is believed they went in the direction of Wilson Road.

The raid is the latest Co-op store in North Staffordshire to be targeted by thieves on motorbikes. The Co-op in The Parade, Silverdale, was looted last December, while Bradwell Co-op in Hanbridge Avenue has been broken into twice over the last two months.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We are appealing for witnesses after two men broke into a Co-op in Hanford and stole a quantity of cash. We were called at 3.45am on Friday to reports of a burglary at the shop on Mayne Street.

“The men were wearing all black clothing and rode off on a trial bike with no lights along Wilson Road. They were carrying a large white shopping bag. Anyone with any information, dashcam or doorbell footage in the area is urged to contact us.”

Witnesses should call 101 quoting incident number 64 of February 21.
