Motorist drives on pavement to avoid roadworks in Mile End

A DRIVER who was caught driving on the pavement so they could avoid a set of temporary traffic lights has been reported to the police.

A picture showing an motorist driving a Land Rover in Mile End Road on Tuesday afternoon was shared on social media after concerns were raised by members of the public.

Essex Police has confirmed it has received the report and is investigating the incident further.

Councillor Martin Goss said roadworks across Colchester were a serious problem but condemned anyone who broke the law in an attempt to avoid them.

A spokesman for Essex Police said the report will be progressed appropriately.
