Movie about OceanGate Titan submersible tragedy in development

MindRiot Entertainment are developing a movie about the OceanGate Titan submersible tragedy which claimed five lives.

Deadline reports that MindRiot Entertainment is developing a movie based on the OceanGate Titan submersible tragedy, which caught the attention of the world in June 2023.

The OceanGate Titan submersible lost contact with its mothership nearly two hours into its deep-sea dive near the wreckage of the Titanic. A massive search took place in an attempt to locate the submersible and rescue the occupants before their air ran out, but four days later, debris was discovered that led investigators to believe the vehicle had imploded, claiming the lives of all five onboard: OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, British businessman Hamish Harding, former French Navy diver Paul-Henry Nargeolet, and British-Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman.

Mindriot’s Justin MacGregor and Jonathan Keasey will co-write the OceanGate movie, which will cover the periods before, during, and after the tragedy. “The Titan Tragedy is yet another example of a misinformed and quick-to-pounce system, in this case, our nonstop, 24-7 media cycle that convicts and ruins the lives of so many people without any due process,” Keasey said. “Our film will not only honor all those involved in the submersible tragedy, and their families, but the feature will serve as a vessel that also addresses a more macro concern about the nature of media today.

Keasey added: “Truth is all that matters. And the world has a right to know the truth, always, not the salacious bait crammed down our throats by those seeking their five minutes of fame. Life is not black and white. It’s complicated. There’s nuance. Always nuance.” MindRiot is also developing a docuseries titled Salvaged, which will be based on the life of former Oceangate mission director Kyle Bingham.

After James Cameron commented on the tragedy, rumours spread that he would be making an OceanGate movie, but he quickly shot them down. “I don’t respond to offensive rumors in the media usually, but I need to now,” Cameron wrote on X/Twitter. “I’m NOT in talks about an OceanGate film, nor will I ever.
