Wokingham’s Liberal Democrat MP, Clive Jones has slammed the regulator Ofcom for “letting Royal Mail off the hook”.
His condemnation comes after the announcement that they would allow the company to abandon second-class deliveries on a Saturday, and cut them back throughout the week.
Jones said that the decision would hurt people in Wokingham who were already having to put up with unacceptable delays and make going about their lives harder.
He called on the regulator to think again and hold the service accountable for failing to deliver post on time.
He said: “This decision will leave countless people in the lurch here in Wokingham.
“My inbox is full of people who are sick to the back teeth of delays to their post and now Ofcom is letting Royal Mail off the hook.
“Local posties do a fantastic job, even in the face of leadership that is failing them, but instead of giving those at the top a free pass, the regulator should step in and hold those that run it properly accountable.
“This approach does nothing but make these delays seem acceptable and that everyone fed up with them should just grin and bear it.
“That is not right and I will not stop fighting until this service is brought up to the standard that people here in Wokingham expect and deserve.”
