MP visits Welwyn Garden City Royal Mail delivery office

Andrew was given a tour around the facility by Oana Vasilu, where he spoke to workers and heard how they manage their busy workload in the lead up to Christmas.

Christmas is Royal Mail’s busiest period, with around double the normal volume of letters and parcels processed.

Across the UK, the business has recruited 16,000 temporary workers to help its 85,000 posties sort the additional mail and increasing number of parcels expected over the festive period.

In Welwyn Garden City, eight new recruits have joined for the Christmas period to meet increased demand for deliveries in the local area.

Hilary French, customer operations manager for Welwyn Garden City, said: “It was great to have Andrew visit our Delivery Office, and to show him how we are gearing up for our peak period.

“We are pulling out all the stops to deliver Christmas for our customers.”

Mr Lewin said: “It was fantastic to meet so many dedicated Royal Mail workers at the Welwyn Garden City office, some who have been serving our community for over 20 years.

“We rely on our posties all year round and it was great to meet so many employees who were in high spirits at such a busy time of year.

“I am grateful to posties across Welwyn Hatfield for their dedication and hard work”.
