Mum labels 7am post delivery as ‘anti-social and ridiculous’

As the festive season starts to get into full swing you may have spotted your local postal workers popping around slightly earlier in the morning to cope with the busier time of year.

But one mother has split opinion online after claiming it was “ridiculous” that her local postman was delivering packages at 7am – as everyone in the house was still asleep.

Venting on forum site Mumsnet, she complained about how she had to leap out of bed and dash for the door so she didn’t miss her parcel.

She even insisted she’d rather just collect her parcels than have them delivered “too early” in the morning – despite the extra hassle.

She wrote: “I was in bed sound asleep, as was everyone else in the house. The postman rang the bell at 7am and woke everyone up.

“My child started wailing. I had no clothes on and had to answer the door in just a dressing gown.

“I complained and the postman said they start at 7am because of Christmas! Now I’m going to be exhausted all day and daren’t order any more parcels in case they turn up at a stupid time.”

The mum then asked if it was unreasonable of her to think the 7am delivery time is “anti-social and ridiculous”.

And her question split the Mumsnet community.

Many who disagreed with her suggested she should be awake by 7am anyway, with one person writing: “You’re just being lazy, sorry. 7am is a reasonable time.”

As another agreed, adding: “Oh, get over yourself. If you don’t want a delivery, then arrange to collect the parcel. They have a job to do.”

While a third said: “You ordered a parcel, they delivered it. Be thankful there’s enough postmen working so you got your delivery.”

But others defended the mum, stating that not everyone has the same schedule and people shouldn’t assume she is “lazy” or “unemployed” just because she doesn’t get up before 7am.

Someone said: “I’m with you, I have two children under three who sleep until 8:30am – wake up the babies, get the wrath of hell.”

And another added: “There are people replying here that think anyone asleep or otherwise engaged before 8am are ‘job shy’ lazy no-gooders!

“Some people get to choose their work hours, don’t work traditional jobs, or work night shifts.”

There were also comments who offered helpful tips to the mum, with some suggesting she should put a note on the door to let the postman know not to knock.

One user said: “Put a note on the door saying not to ring before whatever time suits you. I do this when I’m on nights, as well as switching the doorbell off.”
