Mum of baby left in London bush ‘with umbilical cord attached’ still hasn’t been found

A newborn baby was found abandoned in a London bush with the cord still attached yesterday and now police are directly appealing to the mother to let someone know she’s safe.

Police have confirmed that they are still looking for the baby boy’s mum 24 hours after he was found by a postman doing his round.

They are appealing to the mother to contact police or her local hospital or GP surgery to let someone know she is safe and she can get any medical help she needs.

The baby was found in a bush in Hackney, east London, reportedly with his umbilical cord still attached yesterday.

Officers were called by a member of the public at around 11.40am on Saturday, January 25 after the baby was found on Sandringham Road.

Police were called by a member of the public

In a direct appeal to the child’s mother, Inspector Kevin Weeks of the Central East Command Unit said: “I would urge the mother of this baby to make contact either with police, your local hospital or GP surgery and let us know that you are safe and can receive any medical care you may need.

“Our primary focus is to ensure the wellbeing of both you and your child.

“I would also urge anyone who has information that could help us to reunite this baby with his mother to come forward.”

When the infant was found he was wearing a grey babygrow and a grey hat. He was wrapped up in a white knitted blanket.

Lauren Smith, who claimed her grandad found the baby when he was doing his round as a postman, wrote an appeal yesterday.

She wrote: “London and surrounding. URGENT.

“My grandad has just found a baby abandoned in a bush on Sandringham road hackney e8.

“If you know anything please contact the police. The baby is ok but might not have been if he wasn’t found!”

“He’s a postman was doing his round. His colleague thought he could hear kittens in the bush so they went to check and it was this bubba.”

Lauren added in a comment that “the way they hid it in a bush his cord was still attached” and said the mother of the baby “needs to be found”, urging people in London and the surrounding areas to look out.

“He took the baby into the Royal Mail van to warm him up and called the police. About 7 cars showed up so at least they’re on the ball!” Lauren continued in another comment.
